Our 5-step inquiry process can help your team tackle any problem.
inSPIREd Inquiry can be adapted for all personal and professional learning needs, including:
Humans are curious by nature, and inSPIREd Inquiry capitalizes on this interest. We start by asking, "What do you wonder?"
The first step in our process is to Spark your group’s interest or help ignite a spark they already have to figure something out. We light sparks by creating activities that engage your team with your Big Idea or central problem. These activities build on your group's natural lived experiences, expanding them in a way that builds personal connection and commitment to growth.
When you tell us what you want your group to explore, we will create a spark that will light their way.
In the second phase of inSPIREd Inquiry, the goal is to probe for deeper understanding. In this phase, you may engage in various activities aimed to explore self-regulation, social interactions, goal setting, career planning, or other phenomena.
At the heart of the Probe phase is the probing question – a question designed to elicit introspection and reflection about the Big Idea of interest.
Our inSPIREd experts will make sure your Probe results in meaningful and lasting learning by your team.
Now it is time to get the “Big Picture.” Here is where your team begins to connect the dots between their wondering and your goal.
As we Illustrate your purpose, we will clear any lingering misunderstanding your team may hold. Here, we work to build concepts and vocabulary your group needs to succeed.
Effective illustration supports higher-order thinking and helps your group develop support and justification for their ideas and actions.

In this phase of inSPIREd Inquiry, the goal is to bring focus to our understanding of the problem or issue being explored. Your team will aim to refine their understanding of the big idea and make meaningful connections to their own lives and experiences.
The Refine phase is where the learning becomes highly personalized as you begin to put your learning to work through real-world applications of the skills and strategies being explored.
During this phase, we create opportunities for the group to practice newly acquired skills and apply strategies in authentic ways. At the end of this phase, you'll be ready to Employ your new knowledge.
In the final phase of the inSPIREd Inquiry groups get to Employ the skills and strategies they’ve learned throughout the process. We will work with you to design experiences to exhibit your new skills and seek opportunities to participate in authentic applications of newly acquired skills in your school, workplace, community organization, or beyond.
The goal of the Employ phase is to demonstrate mastery of the skills and strategies developed throughout inSPIREd Inquiry.
